SUMMER READING---ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

ALMA BRYANT HIGH SCHOOL

 

9TH GRADE HONORS:  Students should read The Giverby Lois Lowry and be prepared for a test.

 

Cambridge Students:  Students should read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and be prepared for a test.

 

10th GRADE HONORS:  Students should read The Shakespeare Stealer by Gary Blackwood and be prepared for a test.

11th GRADE HON0RS:  Students should read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway and be prepared for a test.

11th GRADE AP:  Students should read The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway and The Great Gatsby by F.   Scott Fitzgerald during the summer. They should keep reading journals.  Students should create T-W-I-S-T presentation of one of the novels.  Directions for journals and suggestions for presentation are on the school website

12th GRADE HONORS: Students should read 1984 by George Orwell and be prepared for a test.

 12TH GRADE AP: Seniors should read 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley or The Time Machine by H.G. Wells during the summer. They should create a readers’ journal for both novels using the guidelines found on the school website. They should then use these journals to write a compare and contrast essay of at least 500 words on one aspect from the various parts of the readers’ journals: tone, archetypes or character.
