This past week was Navy Week in Mobile and Alma Bryant was the first stop.
Activities at Alma Bryant included a STEM truck with a Virtual Reality game, where each person drove a boat for the SWCC team. And, the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command was set up to inform student about how the Navy uses sonar technology. Both AG2 Osbourne and AG1 Squire told us they use smaller Navy boats and Jet Ski’s to survey oceans to update nautical maps for navigational safety.
Also, Mary G. Montgomery was visited later that week. Lt. Watts informed us that a Navy ship, the USS Mitscher, arrived in Mobile Bay by the Arthur Outlaw Convention Center, and allowed tours of the ship. The Navy band participated in several Mardi gras parades, and had several performances which started on Joe Cain day and went through Fat Tuesday.
According to AO2 Chris Langham, the goal is to reach out to cities to inform people about the Navy and what they do. Approximately thirty to forty cities will be visited nationwide.
