WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program)

In the NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program), you generally shoot five arrows per end to gain points. Here are five points of interest about NASP at Alma Bryant.

Five good reasons that you should try participating in the NASP archery program while you are in your journey through Bryant High School:

A, B, C’s ……Archery builds character. Those who try archery and stick with it learn to apply concepts taught in this sport, learn to develop an “I can do this” attitude. As in other phases of life, those who quit never reap the benefits inherent to this sport.

You become part of a growing tradition at BHS. In the past decade Hurricane Archery teams won nine state championships, a third place finish at Nationals, one first one third, and two second place finishes at World. In addition Hurricane Archery produced four National Guard All-Stars representing Team USA in All-Start tournaments. Hurricane Archery has had one female and one male state, world, and national champion. You really have a chance to make history while in the program. So, the real question is, who’s next?

Scholarship money is available for those who push the limits in this sport. Hurricane Archery has had four scholarship winners in the last four years of the program. Scholarships are awarded from NASP when you enroll in the college or university of your choice. But, you must attend an institution of higher learning to collect this money.

Community Service hours are plentiful in the Hurricane Archery Program. Students thus far have participated in activities such replanting of grasses on sand dunes on Dauphin Island, helping with the archery portion of camps for youth, beautification of campus project, participation in Walks for Diabetes, Cancer Relay for Life, Sweets and Treats, and helping run archery tournaments, at all times passing tips to future archers in the NASP world.

If you are not involved in any extracurricular activity, then Hurricane Archery is looking for you. We travel to Montgomery, Al, Louisville, Ky., Orlando, Fl., Madison, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Missouri, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and even as far away as South Africa to participate in NASP tournaments, and we are recognized as a leading program in this sport. We dare you to step up and be the answer to the question….Who’s next?
