Mattie T. Blount High School is proud to announce Ms. Raila Langham as our 2025 Teacher of the Year. A dedicated educator, passionate leader, and respected mentor, Ms. Langham embodies the spirit of excellence and commitment that defines the Blount High School community.
With 15 years of experience in education, Ms. Langham currently serves as an English teacher and the school’s Testing Coordinator, playing a vital role in academic preparation and student achievement. Over the course of her career, she has taught students in grades 8 through 12, consistently fostering a love for learning, critical thinking, and personal growth.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Langham is the founder of the Ladies’ Academy, a transformative, school-based organization established at Blount High School in September 2016. Designed to enrich the lives of young women in grades 10–12, the Ladies’ Academy is grounded in the motto “Educate to Cultivate.” The organization provides opportunities for students to grow into well-rounded members of society through community service, leadership development, and exposure to life beyond the classroom. Ms. Langham’s goal has always been to expand her students’ horizons and instill in them a deep sense of purpose and selflessness.
Beyond her contributions to Blount High School, Ms. Langham is actively involved in the Mobile community. She participates is a proud member of the Junior League of Mobile and is part of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an organization known for its commitment to service and sisterhood. She also represents and loves all things Mobile Mardi Gras.
Beloved by students, parents, and fellow educators, Ms. Langham leads with grace, professionalism, and heart. Her impact is felt far beyond the classroom, and her dedication continues to inspire those around her.
Ms. Langham was honored this week at the MCPSS annual Teacher of the Year Luncheon.
